Beavers Return to Santa Clara for Bronco Invite
October 10, 2018 | Women's Cross Country
CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State cross country team is slated to get back on the course this weekend following a week off at the Bronco Invitational hosted by Santa Clara University on Saturday.
You can follow along with the action on Saturday via the live results. Results from the meet will be posted following the conclusion of the race and will be available on OSUBeavers.com. The women's 6,000-meter race will begin at 9:30 a.m. following the men's 8,000-meter race.
After taking a week off to train, the Beavers are eager to get back on the course.
"We've had a good two weeks of training," said head coach Louie Quintana. "We will take a full complement to Santa Clara this weekend running 14 healthy women, which is really important to have at this point in the season."
OSU is taking a large contingent of women to Baylands Regional Park this weekend; Sara Christianson, Lexi Reed, Juliana Mount, Maddie Fuhrman, Brigette Takeuchi, Haley Wolf, Mari Friedman, Grace Featherstonhaugh, Alexa Hayes, Mikayla Sodersten, Audrey Lookner, Batya Beard, Alyssa Foote and Rebecca Ledsham.
The last time out the Beavers turned some heads at the Nuttycombe Invitational beating out ranked opponents on the way to a 16th place finish.
"We came off Wisconsin [Nuttycombe] very well," said Quintana. "We were very purposeful in their training and they are excited to get back to California and race."
Last year at the Bronco Invitational, senior Mount took third place overall and looks to continue her strong season after placing in the top 40 in Wisconsin. Getting everyone across the line together is this week's focus.
"At this point it's not about who wins the team points," said Quintana. "It's about having our core five running and finishing together. We have to learn how to be comfortable running with each other because that is what will get you through the nerves and pressure of the conference and regional meets."
The Beavers only have one regular season event scheduled for Oct. 20th at the Beavers Classic in Corvallis. The Pac-12 Cross Country Championships are the following weekend in San Francisco on Friday, Oct. 26.
The NCAA West Regional Championships are slated for Friday, November 9 at Haggin Oaks Golf Course in Sacramento, Calif.
