Beavers Prepped for Northern Colorado

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Returning home to Corvallis, Oregon State wrestling is back in Gill Coliseum on Sunday afternoon for a nonconference match against Big 12 opponent Northern Colorado.

The Beavers return to Gill owning a 2-5 dual meet record. In their most recent outing, OSU suffered a 27-15 loss at the hands of No. 9 Arizona State in its Pac-12 Conference opener. Redshirt senior Amarveer Dhesi continues his unbeaten streak in dual meets after a 9-5 decision over then-ranked No. 4 Tanner Hall.
Northern Colorado is coming off a 28-10 loss to Big 12 foe Oklahoma on Jan. 21. The Bears are 2-5 this season with victories against Iowa State (22-20) and Cal Poly (21-20). Three wrestlers on the UNC squad are individually ranked; Rico Montoya (133, No. 18), Keilan Torres (165, No. 19), Dylan Gabel (184, No. 16).
Sunday afternoon's grapple will be the 29th time the two teams have wrestled in dual competition. The Beavers hold a commanding lead over the Bears in the series, 21-7-0. Last season, Oregon State won a 31-15 contest in Greely, Colo. with current Beavers Jack Hathaway (141), Corey Griego (197) and Cody Crawford (285) each picking up a win.
Ranked Beavers
Oregon State remains represented in the individual rankings by a number of wrestling media outlets. Redshirt senior heavyweight Amarveer Dhesi sits as high as No. 8 in the InterMat rankings, followed with three 10th place rankings by TheOpenMat, Amateur Wrestling News, and Win Magazine. 125-pounder Ronnie Bresser is ranked No. 7 by Amateur Wrestling News, a No. 9 placing by TheOpenMat, No. 10 in the Win Magazine rankings and 12th by InterMat.
Finalizing the Beavers rankings is redshirt junior 197-pounder Corey Griego. Griego sits at No. 15 by InterMat, No. 18 by Amateur Wrestling News and No. 20 by TheOpenMat.
