Smith Adds Lose, Troxel To Staff

The two will join the staff as quality control assistants
CORVALLIS – Oregon State football head coach Jonathan Smith is continuing to add to his staff for the 2018 season, and on Wednesday, announced the additions of former OSU lineman David Lose and Matt Troxel to the program.

Lose (low-seh) will join the program as defensive quality control assistant with Troxel as offensive quality control assistant.

Their appointments are contingent on the completion of all university hiring processes.

"I'm excited to have David and Matt join the staff and look forward to having them at the Valley Football Center," Smith said. "By bringing them to Corvallis, we're adding two well-respected and experienced members to the staff."

Lose was an 18-game starter and three-year letterman offensive guard for the Beavers from 1999-2003. He was part of OSU's co-Pac-12 title Fiesta Bowl championship team and was a key blocker for Beaver running back greats Ken Simonton and Steven Jackson. Lose, who spent five seasons in Arena Football League-2, served as Portland State's defensive line coach following a six-year tenure in different capacities with Washington State's defense.

Troxel arrives at OSU after spending the last seven seasons on the Idaho State coaching staff, including offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach the last two years. His coaching career also includes at Idaho and Montana. Troxel won three Big Sky Conference titles as a wide receiver and returner at Montana. He also has coached nine Big Sky or Western Athletic Conference postseason honorees, including two All-Americans.
