Slama, Nist Pace Beavers On First Day In Idaho

COUEUR D'ALENE, Idaho – Ellie Slama and Haley Nist led the Oregon State women's golf team on the first day of the Coeur d'Alene Invitational on Tuesday.

Slama, a freshman from Salem, Ore., shot a 3-over 74 in the morning round and a spectacular 3-under 68 in the afternoon to finish the day with an even-par 142, good enough for a tie for 18th place.
Â
Nist, a junior from Meridian, Idaho, also played better after the lunch break, posting a 1-over 73-70--143 to put her in a tie for 23rd place.

After Tuesday's 36 holes of play, the Beavers sit in a tie for 11th place in the 18-team field with an 11-over 295-284--579 at the par-71, 6,088-yard Coeur d'Alene Resort Golf Course.

The final round of the two-day, 54-hole tournament is Wednesday and live scoring is available at golfstat.com.

The other three Oregon State golfers are packed together between 6 over and 8 over. Junior Olivia Benzin finished with a pair of 74's, sophomore Mari Nishiura knocked five strokes off her morning round with 77-72 and senior Susie Cavanagh wrapped up the 36-hole day at 74-76.

Colorado (18-under 550) holds a commanding nine-stroke lead over second-place Illinois (9-under 559) for the team title. Kirsty Hodgkins of Colorado (9-under 133) has a two-stroke advantage over Grace Park of Illinois (7-under 135) for medalist honors.
