Beavers Drop Match to BYU
September 11, 2017 | Women's Soccer
CORVALLIS – The Oregon State women's soccer team saw its two-game winning streak snapped Monday, as the Beavers fell 3-0 to BYU at Paul Lorenz Field.
"This was really a tale of two halves," said Oregon State head coach Linus Rhode. "We were on the back foot in the first half, and they took advantage of some chances they created. BYU is obviously a very good team, but so are we. In the second half we came out with more confidence, and it led to a much more even game. This is a tough one to swallow, but we just have to move on."
Senior Emma Jones placed both of her shots on goal. Goalkeeper Bella Geist came up with eight saves in the contest.
BYU got on the board early, as Elise Flake found the net less than three minutes into the contest.
Oregon State created a scoring chance in the 18th minute, as Jones forced a save with a shot from the top of the box. The Cougars would follow that up with a goal in the 24th minute to double the advantage.
Jones tested the keeper again in the 30th minute, but her effort was tipped wide for a corner. BYU added one more tally before the break, to take a 3-0 lead into the intermission.
The Beavers continued to battle in the second half. Shea O'Connor came close to hitting the target on a set piece in the 72nd minute. Paula Leblic and Allison Pantuso came up with back-to-back shots in the 78th minute, but neither effort got through.
Both teams tallied five shots in the second half.
The Beavers will head up I-5 on Friday, when Oregon State will take on Portland at Merlo Field.
