Mari Nishiura Joins Women’s Golf Program
August 07, 2017 | Women's Golf
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State head coach Dawn Shockley announced Monday the addition of Mari Nishiura who signed a Financial Aid Agreement to join the women's golf program.
Nishiura, a native of Mililani, Hawai'i, is transferring to Oregon State after playing her freshman season at the University of Nevada.
She joins Amanda Minni from Delta, British Columbia and Ellie Slama from Salem, Ore., as newcomers heading into the 2017-18 season.
"I'm extremely excited to become a part of the Beaver family," Nishiura said. "I am looking forward to being a part of a program that I believe will help me develop as an athlete and as a person."
Nishiura had a sensational freshman season at Nevada, as she played in all 11 events and set the single-season school record with a scoring average of 74.20. She also led the team in birdies (72) and pars (340), and fired a career-best 70 in three different rounds.
While attending Mililani High School, Nishiura was a two-time Oahu Interscholastic Association High School Individual Champion, four-time Western Division Player of the Year and recorded a top-15 finish in every high school state championship, including two top-five finishes.
She chose Oregon State because "I love how OSU is a college town and the way the community really supports the school. I think OSU women's golf is a great program that supports a solid team environment."
Nishiura had a 4.0 GPA in high school and graduated as the class valedictorian with Career and Technical Education (CTE) honors. She will major in accounting at Oregon State.
