Game 2 Highlights - Oregon State 91, Multiópticas Baza 47
GRANADA, Spain – The Beavers left Valencia on Sunday morning ready for their next stop in Granada where they would spend three nights.
Â
After more than four hours on the bus, the team stopped in the small, loyal community of Baza to practice at the Pabellon Municipal de Deportes. The 90-minute practice included work on defensive assignments and blocking out for rebounds.
Â
A tradition of the team is take halfcourt shots at the end of a shootatound. Everyone gets one attempt; coach Tinkle gets three. None of the players were able to make one, and it looked like it might be a shutout for the Beavers, until director of player personnel Joey Poetchl dropped one in.
Â
Coach Tinkle got in his patented position with his back to the basket tossing the shots over his head. His first attempt missed, but his second shot was all net and everyone went crazy. Except for Coach Tinkle, who was disappointed he made only one of the three.
Â
The group got on the bus and drove 90 minutes to Granada, where the team ate a late meal in the hotel restaurant.
Â
The travel party got up early the next morning and toured Alhambra, a palace and fortress complex located high in the hills above Granada.
Â
After a pregame meal at the hotel, everyone boarded the bus for the trip back to Baza for the game against Multiópticas Baza. The crowd was loud and the atmosphere was hectic, as the majority of the community showed up to cheer on their team. The Beavers jumped out to an early lead and everyone was able to get some minutes in a 91-47 victory.
Â
Tuesday was a free day for travel party. Some people toured the Granada Cathedral. Others walked the streets of Granada. A large group went to the mall. Almost everyone snuck in a nap.
Â
Oregon State is 2-0 on the trip after the 91-47 win over Multiópticas Baza and a 114-71 victory against Combinado Valenciano. The Beavers are scheduled to play their third game in Spain on Wednesday and the final game on Friday.
