BARCELONA, Spain – The first full day in Spain had a combination of hard work and fun.
The Beavers started the day with an early morning workout, led by basketball strength and conditioning coach Jeff Macy. It included a one-mile run to the marina, practice dynamic workout, five hill sprints and a one-mile hard run back to the hotel.
"It was a great workout to move the body around, get the heart rate up and sweat out the long day of travel," Macy said. "Everyone woke up feeling yesterday's travel and afterwards they all reported feeling a ton better."
After the workout, the group showered and got on a bus to Camp Nou, the home stadium of FC Barcelona. Oregon State's travel party had an exclusive tour of the Presidential Box, museum, press box and visitor's locker room, and even got to spend some time on the pitch.
The next tour was supposed to be of Port Olimpica Nautica, but Coach Tinkle surprised everyone with a stop at the beach. The team split into two groups and each had a chance for parasailing, jet skiing and a ride on the Barcelona Chicken Boat.
Oregon State opens its five-game slate tomorrow (Thursday) against Mataro Parc Boel at 12:15 p.m. PT (9:15 p.m. CEST) at Pavello Municipal Teresa Maria Roca in Barcelona.
Here's the entire game schedule (there is a nine-hour time difference from Corvallis to Spain):
