
Manase Hungalu Named To Butkus Award Watch List

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State senior linebacker Manase Hungalu has been named to the Butkus Award Watch List, it was announced on Monday. The award is given annually to the top collegiate linebacker.

Hungalu picked up the honor after a junior season that saw him record 83 tackles, including 49 solo. His 7.5 tackles per game rank second among returning Pac-12 Conference players.

A native of Kailua-Kona, Hawai'i, he also totaled three tackles for loss, one interception, four pass breakups, three fumble recoveries and three quarterback hurries in 2016. He posted a career-best 13 tackles against Utah and accounted for three takeaways against UCLA – two fumble recoveries and one interception.

Hungalu, who recently graduated with a degree in sociology, will come into the 2017 season having played in 22 career games, including 14 starts. He has accrued 126 tackles, including 5.5 for loss, with four fumble recoveries and two interceptions.

He joins Ryan Nall (Maxwell Award), Sumner Houston (Rimington Trophy) and Nick Porebski (Ray Guy Award), as of Monday, on watch lists for the 2017 season.

Oregon State returns to the practice field later this month in preparation for the 2017 football season. Season tickets and mini plans are available at BeaverTickets.com for the six-game home schedule that includes visits from Portland State, Minnesota, Washington, Colorado, Stanford, and Arizona State.

Fans are invited to join the team in Bend on Friday, August 4 for a scrimmage and Fan Fest at Summit High School. The scrimmage starts at 4:30 p.m. PT, with Fan Fest slated from 6-7:30 p.m. The Fan Fest includes inflatables, autographs and more. Fan Fest is free.

The following week, on Saturday, August 12, fans are again invited to a team scrimmage, at Reser Stadium, starting at noon. Following the scrimmage, at approximately 1:30 p.m., it will be time for Family Fun Day, also featuring autographs, inflatables and at 3 p.m., a movie on the videoboard at Reser Stadium, sponsored by Paventy and Brown Orthodontics. Like Fan Fest, Family Fun Day is free to attend.
