June 09, 2017 | Baseball
CORVALLIS, Ore. – KJ Harrison homered and Nick Madrigal drove in two runs to pace top-seeded Oregon State to an 8-4 win over Vanderbilt Saturday night in front of a Goss Stadium era record crowd of 3,737.
Jake Thompson became the third Oregon State pitcher with 14 wins in a season, helping guide the Beavers to their school-record 53rd win of the season. Thompson allowed seven hits and four runs in 7 2/3 innings to tie Scott Christman (1993) and Andrew Moore (2013) for the most wins by an Oregon State pitcher. He also extended his lead nationally, with no other pitcher past 12.
The victory also marked Oregon State's (53-4) 20th-consecutive win.
Harrison hit his team-leading seventh home run in the first to push OSU to a 3-0 lead. After Vanderbilt scored three in the second, Madrigal drove a pitch down the left field line in the bottom half of the inning, driving in two to put the Beavers up for good.
Harrison, Michael Gretler and Christian Donahue all had two hits to pace the Oregon State offense, which pounded out 10 hits against Vanderbilt starter Patrick Raby and reliever Collin Snider. Raby allowed eight hits and six runs in six innings, taking the loss to fall to 10-4.
Thompson was relieved by Jake Mulholland up two with two down in the eighth. The Beavers scored two in the bottom half of the frame, and Sam Tweedt earned the save by recording the game's final three outs.

Oh, And There's That Streak
The win marked Oregon State's 20th in-a-row, tying Missouri for the second longest on the year. It's now three games shy of the Beavers' 23-game streak, from February to mid-April, that is the longest of the season. Oregon State also holds the longest active home winning streak at 16 games.
That's A Record
The Beavers' win Friday night marked the team's 53rd of the year, setting an Oregon State single-season record. It surpasses the 2013 club's 52-13 record.
