Grenier will join Nick Madrigal in the red, white and blue
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State sophomore infielder Cadyn Grenier has been invited to the 2017 USA Baseball Collegiate National Team training camp this summer in Cary, N.C.
Â
Grenier, who hails from Henderson, Nev., has played in all 49 games for the Beavers leading up to Oregon State's regular-season series finale against Abilene Christian. He is batting .283 with four doubles, five triples, five home runs and 28 runs batted in. He leads the club in triples, is tied for first with five home runs and is tied for third with the 28 RBI.
Â
Grenier was named the Pac-12's Player of the Week March 21 after Oregon State's sweep of Arizona State to start conference play. He was 7-for-13 (.538) with a double and a home run against the Sun Devils.
Â
In two seasons in Corvallis, Grenier, a psychology major, has collected 85 hits over 101 games, adding 10 doubles, eight triples, five home runs and 46 RBI.
Â
Training camp invitees will compete for a spot on the final 24-man roster.
Â
Grenier will join teammate and fellow sophomore Nick Madrigal in the red, white and blue this summer. The two continue what has become an annual tradition of Oregon State sending players to compete for the Collegiate National Team.
Â
Jonah Nickerson and Kevin Gunderson were the first Beavers to compete for Team USA, doing so in 2005. Darwin Barney followed them in 2006, with Kevin Rhoderick in 2008. Matt Boyd began the string of now seven consecutive seasons in 2011, followed by Michael Conforto (2012 and 2013), Dan Child (2012), Andrew Moore (2014), Drew Rasmussen (2015) and KJ Harrison (2015 and 2016).
Â
Additionally, Brian Barden competed for Team USA at the 2008 Olympics. Carter Bell and Jordan Lennerton have also worn their country's colors, with both playing for Team Canada.
