May 20, 2017 | Women's Golf
SUGAR GROVE, Ill. – The second round of the NCAA Division I Women's Golf National Championships was cancelled on Saturday due to inclement weather.
The championship will be shortened to 54 holes with 18 on Sunday and the final round on Monday.
Oregon State junior Susie Cavanagh is tied for 44th place, and only seven strokes out of the lead, after opening with a 7-over 79 at the par-72, 6,343-yard Rich Harvest Farms.
None of the 132 golfers in the field were able to finish in red figures in cold and windy conditions on Friday. August Kim of Purdue and Elodie Van Dievoet of Michigan share the clubhouse lead after opening with an even-par 72.
The second round will begin at 7:30 a.m. CT (5:30 a.m. PT) on Sunday and live scoring is available at golfstat.com.
Golf Channel coverage will begin on Monday with pre-game coverage starting at 3 p.m. CT, followed by live coverage at 4 p.m.
The field for the NCAA National Championships includes 24 teams and 12 individuals that qualified at four regional competitions that were held May 8-10.
Cavanagh is just the third Oregon State women's golfer to advance to Nationals as an individual, joining All-American Kathleen Takaishi in 1999 and Anica Yoo in 2015. Takaishi finished in a tie for 48th place at the Tulsa Country Club in Tulsa, Okla., while Yoo finished in a tie for 45th at the Concession Golf Club in Bradenton, Fla.
