
Beavers Celebrate Season at Banquet

Oregon State hands out team awards
CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State women's basketball team celebrated an outstanding season Sunday evening, as the team hosted its annual awards banquet.
The Beavers won their third-straight Pac-12 title in 2016-17, and made the Sweet 16 for the second-straight year. Overall, Oregon State finished the year 31-5, posting the second-best win total in program history.
Senior Sydney Wiese graduated from Oregon State as one of the most accomplished players in program history, earning All-America honors, as well as the Senior CLASS Award and Pac-12 Scholar Athlete of the Year recognition. Fellow senior Gabriella Hanson was named Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year, while Mikayla Pivec made the Pac-12 All-Freshman Team. Junior Marie Gulich joined Wiese in receiving All-Pac-12 honors. Breanna Brown was an All-Pac-12 Defensive Honorable Mention.
Head coach Scott Rueck earned Pac-12 Coach of the Year recognition, and was a Naismith Coach of the Year Finalist for the second-straight year. He also finished second in the AP National Coach of the Year voting, and was a WBCA Coach of the Year Finalist.
The Beavers also took time on the evening to hand out their annual team awards. Wiese earned Offensive Player of the Year and Carol Menken-Schaudt Teammate of the Year recognition, after her outstanding senior campaign. Wiese set the Pac-12 record for career 3-pointers, as well as the Oregon State record for assists on her way to her fourth All-Pac-12 Selection.
Hanson was named the Beavers' Defensive Player of the Year. Her outstanding career featured many highlights, including shutting down Washington standout Kelsey Plum on New Year's Day, as Hanson held her to 8-for-23 shooting.
Gulich was tabbed as Oregon State's Leading Rebounder. The junior finished the year with the seventh-best rebounding season in program history with 293 boards. The 6-foot-5 center ended the season eighth in the Pac-12 in rebounds per game.
Freshman Madison Washington was the team's Most Improved Player. The Las Vegas, Nev., native played in 18 games this season, including two of the Beavers' three Pac-12 Tournament games. Washington scored a season-best five points vs. Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Dec. 27.
