Beavers, Bruins Series Evened At One

LOS ANGELES – Grant Gambrell worked a season-long 5 2/3 innings of relief in No. 1 Oregon State's 7-1 loss to UCLA Saturday night at Jackie Robinson Stadium.
The teams will now play the rubber match Sunday at 1 p.m. PT.
Gambrell, a freshman from Clovis, Calif., held UCLA to five hits and a run while striking out three after coming on in relief of Bryce Fehmel in the second inning. Gambrell came into the game having worked eight innings over eight appearances, and lowered his earned run average to 2.63 from 3.38 with the relief outing.
UCLA scored four in the first to jump on the board early, adding two in the second and one more in the third. The Bruins, with the win, improved to 18-17 on the year and 10-7 in Pac-12 Conference play. The Beavers, meanwhile, are 31-3 overall and 15-2 in league action.
Fehmel was charged with the loss after allowing seven hits and six runs in 1 1/3 innings. He is now 4-2 on the year. His counterpart, Moises Ceja, picked up the win after going six innings, allowing four hits with six strikeouts. He improved to 2-3.
Oregon State got on the board via a one-out double by Nick Madrigal in the eighth. The double sliced down the right field line, scoring Christian Donahue from first.
