February 27, 2017 | Women's Golf
PEORIA, Ariz. – Olivia Benzin finished in a tie for 10th place at the Westbrook Spring Invitational on Monday to continue her strong sophomore campaign for the Oregon State women's golf team.
Â
Benzin, a native of Tacoma, Wash., has recorded top-10 finishes in four of her six tournaments this season. She finished 10th at the Ptarmigan Ram Classic, tied for fifth at the Rose City Collegiate, a career-best tie for fourth at the Pat Lesser-Harbottle Invitational and a tie for 10th at the Westbrook Spring Invitational.
Â
The Beavers finished the two-day, 54-hole tournament in eighth place with an 18-over 288-303-291--882 at the par-72, 6,269-yard Westbrook Village Golf Club Vistas Course.
Â
Kansas State won the 13-team event with a 3-under 861 and Audrey Judd of Nebraska claimed medalist honors with a 7-under 209.
Â
"This team has been working very hard and while the scores this week do not show it, I am confident it will pay off in the long run," Oregon State head coach Dawn Shockley said. "Some things are close to clicking but just not there yet.
Â
"As always, I'm proud of Olivia and her consistent play. Olivia represents our program well and what it means to be a Beav. She loves golf and will outwork anyone. She stays levelheaded and never gets too high or low. She always mentally and physically battles until the end."
Â
Benzin dropped in nine birdies during the tournament and carded two sub-par rounds to finish in a tie for 10th with a career high-tying 1-under 71-73-71--215. She now has five career top-10 finishes, four this season and one as a freshman, and six career rounds in red figures.
Â
It's the 11th time an Oregon State golfer has finished a three-round tournament in red figures and the second time for Benzin:
