
Get to Know You: Michelle Sass and Meehra Nelson

Sass and Nelson are juniors on the Oregon State softball team
For the weeks leading up to the regular season, fans will get a chance to learn about every member of the 2017-18 Oregon State softball team.
This week, we meet up with Michelle Sass and Meehra Nelson in their third season for Oregon State. Sass is a utility player from St. Helens, Ore., and Nelson is a pitcher from Simi Valley, Calif.
Why did you choose Oregon State?
Michelle Sass: I love the campus and the small town feel of Corvallis.
Meehra Nelson: I like the rain and how the trees change colors. It makes me smile.
What do you enjoy about your major?
MS (Kinesiology): I love learning about the different aspect of the human body/medical field and being able to know that I will apply the topics in my future profession.
MN (Zoology): I don't enjoy my major but my minor is cool because I get to learn about the ocean, which is my passion.
What do you like most about playing softball?
MS: It has taught me time management, communication, work ethic and accountability. It's fun.
MN: I love the pressure and competitiveness of pitching.
What is your favorite thing about playing for Coach Berg?
MS: Her passion for the game.
MN: Her intensity and passion for the game gets me going.
What does your uniform number mean to you?
MS (4): It was the number I was given as a freshman and now it represents my spot on the team.
MN (7): Number seven has always been my lucky number. Plus, it reminds me of my soulmate, Taylor Cotton.
What are the team goals for this season?
MS: To never settle.
MN: OKC.
What is your personal goal for the season?
MS: To grow as an individual, a teammate and as a player.
MN: I don't like to tell people personal goals.
What athlete did you idolize growing up and why?
MS: Kaitlin Inglesby (pitcher for UW). She helped coach my team growing up so I got to watch her recruiting process as well as her success in college. Having her as a role model helped shape me into the player I am today.

What age did you know you wanted to play softball in college and what made you realize that?
MS: When I was 10 I knew that I wanted to play softball in college.
MN: I didn't know playing softball in college was a thing until my freshman year in high school and I thought the opportunity would be incredible.
What song/band is most likely to be playing on your phone?
MS: Country music or The Beatles.
MN: I listen to a lot of rap and hip-hop. Love I better.
Do you have any pregame rituals or traditions?
MS: I like to dance even though I'm a very bad dancer.
MN: I am probably the most superstitious person you'll ever meet so I have too many to count or write down.
What current show could you see yourself being a part of?
MS: Fixer Upper.

What is the best thing about living in Corvallis?
MS: The rain.
MN: Fall when the leaves change colors.
What is your biggest phobia?
MS: The world running out of ice cream.
MN: Cockroaches and needles.
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
MS: Read, hike, sleep, study.
MN: Sleeping.
