November 09, 2017 | Women's Gymnastics
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Three outstanding student-athletes have officially joined the Oregon State gymnastics program for the 2018-19 season, head coach Tanya Chaplin announced Thursday.
Â
The 2018 recruiting class consists of Leah Bivrell (Louisville, Colo. / Colorado Gymnastics Institute), Jade Carey (Phoenix, Ariz. / Arizona Sunrays Gymnastics) and Madi Dagen (Pleasanton, Calif. / San Mateo Gymnastics).
Â
"Overall, this is the strongest class we've signed," Chaplin said. "All three are outstanding individuals, excellent students and talented gymnasts. I believe this group will help keep the OSU gymnastics program ranked among the nation's best."
Â
Jade Carey, the daughter of Brian Carey and Danielle Mitchell-Greenberg, burst onto the national scene in 2017 becoming a USAG National Team member. She claimed a pair of silver medals at the 2017 World Championships in Montreal last month. She finished first on vault and second on the floor exercise at the USGA P&G Championships in 2017 and earned two golds on vault and floor to go with a fourth place finish on balance beam at the U.S. Classic. In 2016, Carey was a Junior Olympic team member after finishing third in the all-around at J.O. National Championships including winning on vault and finishing fourth on floor.
Â
She is coached by her father, Brian Carey, at Arizona Sunrays Gymnastics, and formerly trained at Oasis Gymnastics under her dad and Orley Szmuch.
Â
"Jade is an amazing young woman and a very talented gymnast," Chaplin said. "It was incredible to watch her quick rise to compete for the United States at World Championships this year and to watch her earn silver medals on vault and floor. She is also a very strong all-around gymnast and we can't wait for Beaver Nation to watch her compete in Gill Coliseum."

Dagen finished second on the beam and 10th in the all-around at the 2016 J.O. National Championships.
Â

Â
"Madi is a beautiful gymnast and an excellent competitor," Chaplin said. "She has been a very successful all-around gymnast in the Junior Olympic program placing in the top 10 during the past five years at national championships.
