Oregon State High Performance Meet Highlights 2018 Track & Field Schedule
November 07, 2017 | Women's Track & Field
CORVALLIS, Ore. – The annual Oregon State High Performance Meet once again highlights the 2018 schedule for the Oregon State track & field team.
"The High Performance Meet has grown over the past few years," said first year head coach Louie Quintana. "They have done a great job getting quality athletes to this meet, and we want to continue to grow it."
Â
The High Performance Meet is slated for April 27-28, 2018, at the Whyte Track & Field Center. It will be the first time that the new hammer throw area will be used in competition. Designed to allow for fantastic viewing from all sides it is one of only two of its design in the entire country.
Additionally, "two things are in the works right now," added Quintana. "One is the completion of the distance plaza. We want to be able to showcase historically what we have done in distance events."
Â
"We are also working on getting some wrapping and banners hung up around the track."
Â
The High Performance Meet is one of the premier competitions in the Pacific Northwest. It attracts premier teams and athletes from across the country.
"The High Performance Meet will also have a community fun run 5K in the morning," said Quintana. "We are going to keep incorporating the city of Corvallis with our track and field program."
Â
Oregon State is scheduled to open the indoor season at the UW Indoor Preview on Jan. 13 at the Dempsey Indoor Center in Seattle, Wash. The Beavers conclude the indoor season at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships on Feb. 23-24, also at the Dempsey Indoor Center.
"I think for us with Seattle being so close it's great for our team to get some indoor opportunities," said Quintana. "It's an opportunity to break up our training for our athletes that allows them to get a race or two in during the indoor season."
Â
After a couple week break from competition the Beavers begin the outdoor campaign on March 16-17 at the Lewis and Clarke Invitational in Portland, Ore. A grueling schedule sees OSU mostly in California and Oregon through the spring.
The Pac-12 Championships are May 12-13 in Palo Alto, California. The multi-events championships precede the Pac-12 Championships on May 5-6. The NCAA West Regional is May 24-26 in Sacramento, Calif., followed by the June 7-9 NCAA Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.
