Oregon State honors 16 seniors in pregame ceremony
CORVALLIS  – The Oregon State football team made a late push, but was not able to overcome Arizona State Saturday afternoon, as the Sun Devils took a 40-24 win at Reser Stadium in the Beavers' final home game of the 2017 season.
Noah Togiai caught five passes for 88 yards, while Jordan Villamin moved up to 10th on Oregon State's career receiving yards list after finishing the day with five catches for 60 yards. Ryan Nall rushed for 42 yards and a touchdown, as he moved past Bill Enyart to take over the eighth spot on Oregon State's career rushing list.
Darell Garretson completed 26 of his 37 pass attempts for 269 yards. The senior also rushed for a touchdown in the contest.
Freshman Isaiah Dunn led the team with nine tackles. Jonathan Willis recorded eight tackles, while Jalen Moore and Manase Hungalu tallied seven tackles apiece.
The Beavers celebrated Senior Day in a pregame ceremony, as the team bid farewell to 16 seniors (Brandon Arnold, Titus Failauga, Garretson, Xavier Hawkins, Hungalu, Trevorris Johnson, Fred Lauina, Phillip Napoleon, Landry Payne, Wesley Payne, Nick Porebski, Baker Pritchard, Paisa Savea, Thomas Tyner, Villamin and Kyle White).
Arizona State jumped in front from the start, going ahead 30-0 in the second quarter. The Beavers got on the board just before halftime, as Nall capped off an eight-play 79 yard drive with a one-yard touchdown run. Trevon Bradford sparked the scoring drive with a 36-yard run that got the Beavers inside the ASU 10.
The two sides traded field goals in the third quarter. The Sun Devils opened the closing frame with a touchdown, before the Beavers answered with a Trevorris Johnson rushing score. Togiai had two catches on the 77-yard drive, totaling a combined 35 yards. Oregon State followed that up with a successful onside kick that resulted in a Garretson rushing touchdown.
The Beavers threatened to find the endzone in the closing minutes, but a turnover at the ASU 15 yard-line stymied the Oregon State drive, as the Sun Devils took the win by 16.
Oregon State will close out the 2017 season on Saturday, when the Beavers take on Oregon in the Civil War.
