SEASON OPENER
Oregon State, ranked No. 13 to open the season, traveled to SEC Country to take on No. 8 Auburn to open the season. The Beavers, led by Kaytianna McMillan (39.125), who won the all-around title for the first time in her career, defeated the Tigers 195.575-195.275. OSU beat Auburn on three events and tied on the other with both teams scoring 48.900 on the uneven bars. The Beavers' vault lineup exceeded the 49-point mark, a feat they accomplished only three times in 2016 with a tally of 49.025. Madeline Gardiner posted the meet's highest score with a 9.900 on the balance beam and Erika Aufiero secured the event title on the bars with a 9.850. McMillan and freshman Isis Lowery tied for the event title on the floor exercise with scores of 9.825 ... The Beavers' return trip from Auburn to Corvallis was fraught with travel issues. The squad's return flight was cancelled due to a winter storm in Atlanta and upon arriving on the west coast, the Beavers were forced to stay the Saturday night in Portland due to an ice storm that covered most of the state of Oregon. The team eventually caught a bus home with the Beavers' men's basketball team, whose own travel plans were derailed by an overnight stop in Lacey, Wash. due to the weather. The teams arrived back in Corvallis at approximately 1 p.m. on Sunday, 24 hours later than the gymnastics team had been scheduled.
