Kerkvliet Named Assistant Women’s Golf Coach
August 03, 2016 | Women's Golf
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Kelly Kerkvliet, who competed for the Oregon State women's golf team from 2001-05 and was an assistant coach during the 2013-14 season, is returning to the program, head coach Dawn Shockley announced Wednesday.
Kerkvliet will be an assistant coach for Shockley, who was hired as the head coach on July 11, 2016.
"I'm very excited about the opportunity to return to Oregon State," Kerkvliet said. "I've had the pleasure to get to know Coach Shockley over the past couple years and believe in her vision for the team and the players. I look forward to helping her take the program to the next level."
"I'm excited to bring Kelly back to our Beaver family," Shockley said. "Not only does Kelly have passion for this university and the best college town in the Pac-12, but her energy, creativity and knowledge of the game will be a vital part of our program."
Kerkvliet worked as a graphic designer in the health care industry the past two years. Before joining Oregon State as an assistant coach in 2013, she was the Director of Junior Golf for the Idaho Golf Association in Boise where she was responsible for the program's budget and developed the Junior Golf Tour schedule of more than 50 events.
She also worked with more than 550 members of IGA Junior and their parents, and worked closely with the IGA Board of Directors, Rocky Mountain PGA and the First Tee of Idaho. Kerkvliet was the captain for the Idaho Girl's Junior Americas Cup Team, which finished in a tie for seventh place in 2013, its best finish to date.
Prior to her stint with the Idaho Golf Association, Kerkvliet was an assistant golf professional at BanBury Golf Course in Boise for nine months where she instructed private and group lessons and clinics, while also coordinating the junior golf program.
After her graduation from Oregon State, Kerkvliet was the Director of Brand and Creative Services for the Boise Hawks Baseball Club from May 2006 to October 2012. During that time, she was responsible for developing and executing a marketing agenda and budget to increase awareness for the club.
Kerkvliet graduated from Oregon State in 2005 with a bachelor's degree in business administration, marketing and merchandising. She earned Pac-10 All-Academic honors following her senior season when she posted a season-best 76 at both the PING Invitational and Pac-10 Championship.
