Swanson Wins Oregon Women’s Stroke Play

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State women's golfer Hannah Swanson won the Oregon Women's Stroke Play Championship on Wednesday.
Swanson, a rising junior from Forest Grove, Ore., dominated the two-day event with a 3-over 69-75--144 at the Gearhart Golf Links in Gearhart, Ore., to win by five strokes over Krissy Peterson.
The 36-hole stroke play competition, now in its 26th year, featured 33 of the top amateur women's golfers in Oregon and Washington.
Swanson was named to the Pac-12 All-Academic Second Team in her first eligible year this past season for a 3.57 cumulative GPA in business.
Her win continues a strong summer for Oregon State women's golfers. Olivia Benzin won the Washington State Women's Golf Association State Championship for the second straight year and Haley Nist finished second at the McCall Women's Amateur. Incoming freshman Nicole Schroeder won the CWAC California Junior Girls' State Championship and Susie Cavanagh, a transfer from UConn, claimed the Rhode Island Golf Association's Women's Amateur.
The Beavers will open their 2016-17 season at the Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic, which will be held Sept. 11-13 in Fort Collins, Colo.
