May 28, 2016 | Women's Track & Field
LAWRENCE, Kan. – Senior Sara Almen and junior Devin Collins (pictured) did not advance to the NCAA championships in their respective events on Friday on Day 2 of the weather-delayed NCAA West Preliminary track & field meet at the University of Kansas.
Collins placed fourth in her 400-meter hurdles heat and 25th overall in 59.38. Almen no-heighted in the high jump.
The top 12 finishers in each event advance to the NCAA Championships, set for June 8-11 at Hayward Field in Eugene.
Junior Melissa Ausman was in sixth place with a mark of 166-3 in the discus, which was delayed until Saturday by rain with the third flight of the 48-woman field yet to compete. Seven of the top 10 seeds are in the third flight.
The top 24 finishers after three throws will advance and receive three more throws to determine the final 12 qualifiers.
Collins will run in the 100 hurdles at 9:30 a.m. Saturday; she is seeded 33rd with a qualifying time of 13.46. Junior Morgan Anderson will compete in the 1500 on Saturday; she is seeded 38th with a season-best time of 4:22.94.
Collins and Anderson were originally scheduled to run on Thursday, but their races were rained out. The six heat winners, and the next six fastest times, in both races on Saturday will advance to NCAAs.
