
Three Women's Golfers Earn All-Academic Honors

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. – Ashlee Pickerell and Hannah Swanson were both named to the Pac-12 All-Academic Second Team and Haley Nist received Pac-12 All-Academic Honorable Mention recognition, Commissioner Larry Scott announced Friday.
Pickerell, a senior from Albany, Ore., earned Pac-12 All-Academic honors for the third consecutive year for her 3.68 cumulative GPA in public health. She was named to the Second Team last year and Honorable Mention in 2014. She played in all eight tournaments this past season and had a scoring average of 75.57 in 23 rounds, the eighth-best single-season scoring average in Oregon State history.
She's the seventh Oregon State women's golfer to earn Pac-12 All-Academic honors three times, joining Margo Evashevski (1992-94), Carina Olsson (1998-2001), Alex Lucio (2003-05), Jessi Gebhardt (2006-08), Whitney French (2010-12) and Lauren Sewell (2012-14).
Pickerell was named a Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American Scholar in 2015.
Swanson, a sophomore from Forest Grove, Ore., was named to the Pac-12 All-Academic Second Team in her first eligible year for a 3.57 cumulative GPA in business. She played in all eight tournaments and had a scoring average of 77.65. Her best score was a 1-under 71 in the third round of the Westbrook Spring Invitational and her best finish was a tie for sixth place at the Bay Area Intercollegiate.
Nist, a sophomore from Meridian, Idaho, earned Pac-12 All-Academic Honorable Mention honors in her first eligible year for a 3.33 cumulative GPA in pre-business. She played in all eight tournaments and had a scoring average of 74.43 in 23 rounds, the best single-season scoring average in Oregon State history. Her best score was a 3-under 69 in the third round of the Rose City Collegiate, equaling the second-lowest score in Oregon State history.
An Oregon State women's golfer has now earned conference all-academic honors every year since 2000 and a total of 39 times since the recognition began in 1992.
In order to be eligible for the Pac-12 All-Academic teams, a student-athlete must have a grade point average of 3.00 or better and must be a starter or significant contributor.
