
Pickerell Leads Beavers To Solid Start In Tempe

TEMPE, Ariz. – Ashlee Pickerell fired a 1-under 71 to help put the Oregon State women's golf team ahead of four ranked teams after the first day of competition at the PING/ASU Invitational on Friday.
The Beavers shot a 6-over 294 at the par-72, 6,337-yard ASU Karsten Golf Club in the opening round of the three-day, 54-hole tournament to sit in sixth place in the 14-team field.
No. 3 UCLA leads with a 7-under 281, while No. 17 UNLV and No. 11 Arizona State are tied for second with a 1-under 287. Oregon State has a first-round lead over No. 29 Texas (7-over 295), No. 13 Washington and No. 31 Colorado (10-over 298) and No. 4 Northwestern (13-over 301).
The second round begins at 8 a.m. on Saturday and live scoring is available at golfstat.com.
Pickerell, a senior from Salem, Ore., started the day with two birdies and played nearly flawless golf the rest of the way with 15 pars and only one bogey to shoot a 71 and put her in tie for eighth place.
Sophomore Haley Nist had three birdies and three bogeys to post an even-par 72 for a tie for 12th place. Senior Chelsea Saelee shot a 3-over 75 and sophomore Hannah Swanson carded a 4-over 76 to make up the Beavers' scoring after the first day of competition against a field that includes seven Pac-12 teams.
Bronte Law of UCLA shot a course-record 8-under 64 to hold a four-stroke individual lead with 36 holes to play.
