Beavers Finish Third, Conner Kumpula Fourth

UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. – Conner Kumpula recorded his best career finish to lead the Oregon State men's golf team at the Redhawk Invitational on Tuesday.
Kumpula, a junior from Albany, Ore., finished in a tie for fourth place after concluding the two-day, 54-hole event with a 13-over 77-76-72--225 at the challenging Chambers Bay Golf Club. The course played to a par 71 in the first two rounds and a par 70 on the final day.
It's his third top-10 showing of the season, after finishing sixth at the Husky Invitational in September and tied for 10th at the Amer Ari Invitational in February. His best finish entering his junior campaign was a tie for 17th place at the Husky Invitational as a freshman.
The Beavers finished third in the 16-team field to equal their best finish of the 2015-16 season. OSU shot a 25-over 309 in Monday's morning round, a 25-over 309 in Monday's afternoon round and an 18-over 298 in Tuesday's final round to conclude play with a 68-over 916.
Oregon State also finished third at the Saint Mary's Invitational and Husky Invitational, two tournaments that were contested this past September.
Sophomore Jonas Liebich improved his score each round and also recorded a career-best mark, after finishing in a tie for 11th place with a 16-over 79-76-73--228. His previous best finish was a tie for 13th place at the Saint Mary's Invitational in September.
Junior Calum Hill shot a pair of 75's that sandwiched an 81 to finish in a tie for 19th place with a 19-over 231 and senior Tyler Carlson finished in a tie for 35th with a 23-over 78-79-78--235.
Junior Kevin Murphy led the 92-player field with three birdies and a scoring average of 4.61 on the par-5's that helped him finish in a tie for 54th with a 28-over 83-78-79--240.
Competing as individuals, senior Chris Tedesco shot a 29-over 80-83-78--241 (t-59th) and freshman Trevor Yu finished with a 34-over 86-80-80--246 (t-77th).
Washington won the team title with a 49-over 897 and TCU shot a tournament-best 5-over 285 in the final round to move into second with a 60-over 908. Jonathan Sanders of Washington claimed medalist honors with an 8-over 220.
