April 30, 2016 | Men's Golf
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Senior Tyler Carlson and junior Calum Hill both fired a 1-over 72 in the third round of the 57th Annual Pac-12 Championship to lead the Oregon State men's golf team on Saturday.
The Beavers are in 12th place at the three-day, 72-hole tournament with a 43-over 371-365-372--1,108 at the par-71, 7,209-yard Country Club.
Stanford has built a commanding 12-stroke lead with a 29-under 1,036. California is second with a 17-under 1,048 and USC is third with a 2-over 1,067.
The final round will begin at 7 a.m. PT on Sunday with tee times off the first and 10th holes. Live scoring and pairings are available at golfstat.com.
“It was one of those days where as a team nothing went right,” Oregon State head coach Jon Reehoorn said. “We just hit shots we don't normally hit and couldn't execute pretty standard shots.
“The positive from the day was the bounce back by Tyler Carlson and fight on the last nine holes by Calum Hill. Calum has the ability to always find a way to get the most out of his game even if he doesn't have his best from tee to green.
“We have one round to go. We need to get the guys away from golf for a little bit and be ready for one last fight tomorrow.”
Hill was 5 over after his first nine holes on Saturday but rallied with four birdies and five pars coming in to shoot a 1-over 72. He has been steady throughout the championship and sits in a team-best tie for 25th place with a 2-over 73-70-72--215.
Carlson's solid third round, which included three birdies, moved him seven spots up the leaderboard into a tie for 63rd place with a 16-over 79-78-72--229.
Junior Conner Kumpula is tied for 39th place with an 8-over 73-72-76--221, senior Chris Tedesco is tied for 42nd with a 9-over 74-72-76--222 and junior Kevin Murphy is tied for 45th with an 11-over 75-73-76--224. Sophomore Jonas Liebich is tied for 68th with an 18-over 76-79-76--231.
Pac-12 Networks will air coverage of the championships on Sunday, May 8 at 10 a.m. PT. Greg Heister and Kay Cockerill will call the action.
