
Meet The Beavers: Haley Nist

CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State women's golf team will compete at the 44th Annual Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic Friday through Sunday in Athens, Ga.
The 12-team tournament features one qualifying round of stroke play on Friday, and the top-eight teams will be in the “Red” bracket and the remaining four teams will be in the “Black” bracket. There will then be two rounds of match play on Saturday and one round of match play on Sunday.
The tournament, which is one of the oldest continuous sporting events in all of women's intercollegiate athletics, will be held at the par-72, 6,307-yard University of Georgia Golf Course.
The field includes six teams that have combined to win 13 of the past 16 NCAA Championships (golfstat.com/golfweek.com ranking): Alabama (3/5), Arkansas (4/7), Auburn (59/59), Denver (75/80), Duke (1/2), Georgia (7/6), Kent State (15/12), Northwestern (5/4), Oregon State (67/59), Purdue (40/42), USC (2/1) and UCLA (6/3).

Heading into the Beavers' third tournament of the spring season, we take a closer look at Haley Nist, a sophomore from Meridian, Idaho, who is majoring in pre-business.

What is your best academic achievement to date?
High school valedictorian.
What do you want to do after you graduate from Oregon State?
College golf coach or elementary school teacher.
When and where did you start playing golf?
At my home course in Idaho when I was 8 years old.
Have you ever gotten a hole-in-one? If so, when and where for each?
Yes. Summer of 2014 during my club championship tournament.
What's your favorite golf course and why?
Nanea in Kona, Hawai'i. It's in amazing shape, challenging and you can see the ocean from every hole.
Why did you choose to attend Oregon State?
I love the campus, town, coaches and team, and I am very fortunate for the opportunity to play Pac-12 golf.
What do you like best about your teammates?
We are a small group but all get along great and encourage and push each other to do our best every day. We have a lot of fun together.
What do you like best about your coaches?
They have a great energy and push us every day to get better on and off the golf course.
What do you like best about Corvallis?
It's a great college town and everyone is so passionate about the school.
Who is the most famous person you've played golf with?
Graham DeLaet. He comes to my home course in Idaho when he is home.
Who would be in your dream foursome?
Jordan Spieth, Phil Mickelson, Lexi Thompson and me.
If you could play a different college sport at Oregon State, what would it be and why?
Cross country because I ran on the cross country team in high school.
What is your best athletic achievement to date?
Getting a hole-in-one and shooting 63 in the same tournament round.
What are your team and individual goals for the season?
Team is to compete in the NCAA Regional Championships. Individual is to get a top 10 finish and compete at NCAA's.
