Beavers Finish Ninth At Northwest Classic

CANBY, Ore. -- Juniors Calum Hill and Kevin Murphy each fired a 1-over 73 in the final round of the Airstream Adventures Northwest Classic on Tuesday to help the Oregon State men's golf team finish in ninth place at the inaugural event.
The second round of the two-day, 54-hole tournament was concluded early Tuesday morning and the Beavers were tied for eighth place through 36 holes. They shot a 10-over 298 in the final round at the par-72, 6,975-yard Willamette Valley Country Club to finish ninth with a 26-over 299-293-298--890.
UNLV won the team title with a 22-under 842, while Oregon finished second with a 14-under 850 and St. Mary's moved into third with a 2-over 866. Oregon golfers held down the top three spots on the individual leaderboard, led by Sulman Raza's 10-under 206.
Murphy was as consistent as can be, shooting a 1-over 73 all three rounds to finish in a tie for 22nd place with a 3-over 219. He led the Beavers with 10 birdies, including three in the final round, to move three spots up the leaderboard.
Junior Conner Kumpula also had a solid tournament, finishing in a tie for 36th place with a 6-over 76-70-76--222. Sophomore Jonas Liebich climbed up the leaderboard a couple of spots after posting a 12-over 77-75-76--228 for a tie for 60th place and freshman Trevor Yu concluded play in a tie for 72nd with a 16-over 76-75-81--232.
Oregon State had three golfers competing as individuals and senior Chris Tedesco led the group with an 8-over 75-74-75--224 for a tie for 42nd place. Senior Tyler Carlson finished in 52nd place with a 10-over 76-75-75--226 and freshman Tom Kerkvliet shot an 18-over 77-83-74--234 for a tie for 79th.
The Beavers return to action on Monday, April 4 and Tuesday, April 5 at the Seattle U. Redhawk Invitational in University Place, Wash.
