Beavers Rally On Day One At Northwest Classic

CANBY, Ore. -- The Oregon State men's golf team rallied in the afternoon round at the inaugural Airstream Adventures Northwest Classic on Monday before play was suspended due to darkness.
The Beavers were tied for 12th place after opening with an 11-over 299 at the par-72, 6,976-yard Willamette Valley Country Club. They were 6 over in the afternoon round and moved into a tie for ninth in the 15-team field before play was suspended at 7:30 p.m.
Most of the groups have three holes left to finish their second round as water pooling on the greens forced a long delay. Play will resume at 8 a.m. on Tuesday and the final round will commence immediately after completion of the second round with the same pairings.

Junior Conner Kumpula was rolling in his second round, with five birdies and a bogey, to put him at 4 under with three holes to play. The Albany, Ore., native is tied for 13th place at even par after shooting a 4-over 76 in the morning round.
Junior Kevin Murphy carded a team-best 1-over 73 in the opening round and was 3 over with two holes to play in the second round to put him in a tie for 33rd place. He birdied three of his last five holes of the day and has the par-4 first and par-5 second holes left to finish Tuesday morning.
Freshman Trevor Yu is tied for 58th place after shooting a 4-over 76 in the morning and sitting at 3 over in the afternoon, despite a triple bogey. Junior Calum Hill is tied for 63rd place at 8 over with one hole to play and sophomore Jonas Liebich is 10 over and tied for 75th with three holes to play.
Three Oregon State golfers are competing as individuals: seniors Tyler Carlson and Chris Tedesco and freshman Tom Kerkvliet. Tedesco is tied for 50th (6 over), Carlson is tied for 63rd (8 over) and Kerkvliet is tied for 84th (15 over).
UNLV has the team lead at 13 under and Aaron Wise of Oregon is 7 under to hold a one-stroke lead over a pair of golfers
