
Beavers Set School Record, Liebich Ties Best Round

WAIKOLOA, Hawai'i – It was a record-setting day for the Oregon State men's golf team at the 25th Annual Amer Ari Invitational on Friday.
The Beavers shot a 16-under 272 to break the single-round team record and Jonas Liebich fired a 9-under 63 to tie the program's single-round individual record.
Oregon State jumped five spots into third place in the 19-team field with an 18-under 286-272--558 at the par-72, 7,074-yard Waikoloa Kings' Course. Pac-12 teams hold down the top six spots, led by UCLA with a 25-under 279-272--551 and USC with a 23-under 278-275--553.
Junior Kevin Murphy carded a 5-under 67 and senior Tyler Carlson and junior Conner Kumpula each posted a 1-under 71 to go with Liebich's 9-under 63 for the school record 16-under 272.
The previous single-round school record was a 15-under 345 at the 2000 Pac-10 Championship
Liebich, a sophomore from Ingolstadt, Germany, had one eagle, seven birdies and no bogeys to equal the school mark. He was 1 under after his first nine holes before catching fire and going 8 under over the final nine.
He ties the program record of 9-under 63 that Alex Moore shot at the Oregon Duck Invitational in the spring of 2011.
The final round of the three-day, 54-hole tournament will begin at 7:30 a.m. Hawai'i time (9:30 a.m. PT) on Saturday with a shotgun start. Live scoring is available at golfstat.com.
Freshman Trevor Yu shot a 7-over 79 and junior Calum Hill, who is competing as an individual, carded a 1-over 73.
Kumpula is the top Oregon State golfer on the individual leaderboard with a 7-under 66-71--137 for a tie for seventh place. Carlson and Liebich are tied for 27th at 2 under with a 71-71 and 79-63, respectively, while Murphy is tied for 46th with a 1-over 78-67--145 and Yu is tied for 87th with a 6-over 71-79--150.
