Seattle, Wash. – Sophomore sprinter Kerissa D'Arpino (pictured) tied the school record in the 60 meters and OSU posted six other top-10 performances on Saturday in the final day of the Husky Classic at the Dempsey Indoor Center.
"We had some really good things happen," OSU coach Kelly Sullivan said. "We had a lot of positives and competed well."
D'Arpino's 7.71 clocking in the preliminaries equaled Allie Church's school mark. She then ran 7.93 in the semifinals, which were immediately after the 400, and did not advance to the finals.
D'Arpino also ran 56.81 in the 400, the second-best time in school history, and placed 15th. She finished a whisker behind her twin sister, Venessa D'Arpino, who ran 56.47 and took 11th. Venessa holds the school mark of 55.60, set last season.
Sara Almen cleared 5-7.75 in the high jump for the second meet in a row, and placed third. Lucinda Howard went 18-1.75 and placed eighth in the long jump; Jasmin McKenzie was 10th in 18-0.25.
Michele Turney took seventh in the triple jump in 38-2.25, just four inches off her school record.
Other top-10 all-time marks were set by:
· Bethany Imperial, who improved her PR by eight inches with the No. 2 triple jump in school history (37-6) to place ninth.
· Howard, who took 10th in the triple jump (36-10.25) with the third-best mark all-time.
· Devin Collins, who ran 8.70 (# 3) in the prelims of the 60 hurdles. She ran 8.94 in the semifinals, when she hit a hurdle, and did not advance to the finals. She placed 13th.
· Juliana Mount (4:54.21, # 4) and Holly Cavalluzzo (4:54.91, # 5) in the mile. Morgan Anderson had OSU's best time (4:52.74) on Saturday and placed 35th.
All told, the Beavers had nine top-10 career performances in the two-day meet, including Kerissa D'Arpino's school record. On Friday, freshman pole vaulter Gillette Field cleared 11-7.75, the No. 2 mark, and Kara Hallock ran 26.21 in the 200, sixth-best all-time.
OSU has set or tied four school records and recorded 27 all-time top-10 indoor times or marks in this winter.
"Overall we just keep moving forward," Sullivan said.
The Beavers are now idle until the Feb. 26-27 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation championships, also at the Dempsey Indoor Center. That meet concludes the indoor season; the outdoor season begins March 19 at the Rose City Invitational in Portland, a three-way meet with Portland State and the University of Portland.
