Wiese named Tournament MVP
CORVALLIS – Oregon State has placed two players on the Maui Jim Maui Classic All-Tournament Team, which was announced on Monday. Senior Sydney Wiese was named the Tournament MVP, while redshirt-junior Breanna Brown also made the All-Tournament squad.
Wiese averaged 17 points per game over the course of the two-day event. She started things off with a 19-point, five-rebound performance against Idaho on Friday. She also hit all 11 of her free throw attempts, to help the Beavers earn a win over the Vandals. The Communications major followed that up by scoring 15 points against BYU on Saturday. Wiese also tallied seven rebounds and seven assists in that game.
Brown narrowly missed a double-double in the Beavers' tournament opener, scoring eight points and pulling down 14 rebounds. The redshirt-junior also tallied four blocks in the game. Brown put up four points, four rebounds and two blocks on Saturday. Overall, she shot 6-for-9 from the floor in the event.
Oregon State won both of its games at the inaugural Maui Classic to come away as tournament champions. With the victories, the Beavers improve to 5-1 on the year, and will return home to take on Southern Utah at 6 p.m. on Saturday.
