Oregon State Faces Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Tuesday
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State freshman Mikayla Pivec has been named Pac-12 Freshman of the Week, the conference office announced Monday.
Pivec, a bio-health sciences major, is the first Beaver to win the award since Sydney Wiese was named Freshman of the Week in 2014, and is just the third Oregon State player to take the honor since the award began in 2012-13.
The freshman from Lynwood, Wash. had a breakout weekend for the Beavers, making her first two starts and earning #Play4Kay Shootout All-Tournament honors. Pivec scored 17 points in her first career start, shooting 6-for-7 from the floor in a win over Quinnipiac, and again went for 17 points in a victory over Oklahoma State the next day. The guard also played some important minutes in the Beavers' win over UNLV in the tournament opener, making a vital steal in the closing minutes and hitting two free throws to seal the win. Overall, Pivec finished the three-game #Play4Kay Shootout 14-for-19 from the floor.
As a team, Oregon State earned three wins to take the #Play4Kay Shootout title. The Beavers are 10-1 on the season, and have won seven-straight games.
The Beavers will return home to take on Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Dec. 27 in their final nonconference game of the season. Oregon State will open Pac-12 play on Dec. 30, when it faces Washington State.
