Beavers Set for Portland Thorns Tournament
January 25, 2016 | Women's Soccer
CORVALLIS – The Oregon State women's soccer team will test itself against some professional competition this spring, when it competes against National Women's Soccer League opposition at Providence Park. The Beavers will take part in a preseason tournament hosted by Portland Thorns FC, competing in three matches from March 27-April 2. The Houston Dash and Seattle Reign will compete in the tournament, alongside the host Thorns.
Oregon State, the only college team invited to join the competition, will open the event by taking on the Dash on March 27. It will follow that up by facing the Thorns on March 30 and the Reign on April 2. The Beavers will see a familiar face when they take on Portland, as they go head-to-head with former Oregon State standout Jodie Taylor. The full schedule for the tournament is listed below.
"This a great opportunity for our players to test themselves in our non competitive season against the pros," said head coach Linus Rhode. "Thank you to the entire Portland Thorns' organization, it is an honor to be the only college team invited to such an event."
Thorns FC season ticket holders will have access to an exclusive presale beginning Tuesday, Feb. 2, at 10 a.m. (Pacific). Individual tickets, which allow entry to both matches each day, start at $8 and go on sale to the general public starting Thursday, Feb. 4, at 10 a.m. (Pacific) online at www.portlandthornsfc.com. Full tournament ticket packages, starting at $15, also will be available for purchase online.
