January 19, 2016 | Women's Basketball
CORVALLIS – The Oregon State women's basketball team moved up in both polls this week, after notching an impressive weekend sweep of the Bay Area schools. The Beavers jumped two spots to No. 8 in the USA Today/WBCA Coaches' poll and moved up one spot to No. 11 in the Associated Press rankings.
Oregon State has now been ranked in the top 12 of the AP Poll every week since Dec. 29, 2014 and have appeared in the Coaches' Poll every week since April 7, 2014.
The Beavers are 14-3 on the season, and 5-1 in Pac-12 Conference play. The team recorded its first win over Stanford since 2001 on Sunday, overcoming a double-digit fourth-quarter deficit to end a streak of 29-straight defeats to the Cardinal. Senior Deven Hunter had the best game of her collegiate career, scoring 19 points and pulling down 12 rebounds. She also hit a career-high five 3-pointers. Fellow senior Jamie Weisner tallied 18 points, 12 of which came in the fourth quarter.
Oregon State opened last week with a win over California. Junior Gabriella Hanson led the way with 20 points, while Weisner put up 16.
The Beavers will head to the Mountain schools this week for matchups with Utah and Colorado.
