Beavers in Italy Day 5: Florence
August 30, 2015 | Women's Basketball
FLORENCE, Italy – With two wins under their belts, the Beavers got a well-deserved day of rest on Sunday, as the team toured Florence. The Beavers witnessed numerous masterpieces, including Michelangelo's David and the Duomo.
“It was really cool to see the statue of David,” said junior Gabby Hanson. “It's really beautiful in person. The detail is incredible and it's a great piece of art.”
“We saw so many amazing sights today, but I have to say my favorite is Michelangelo's David,” said senior Ruth Hamblin. “It's such a great work of art with incredible historical significance, so to have the opportunity to see it was awesome.”
Following a three hour tour of the city, the Beavers were given the afternoon to enjoy Florence on their own, experience the local shopping, cuisine and culture.
With five days in the books, Oregon State still has many outstanding experiences to come, including two more games, along with trips to Venice and Lake Como.
“I'm looking forward to so many things on the rest of this tour, but I think the biggest would have to be seeing the gondolas in Venice,” Hamblin said. “When you think of Italy, that's one of the things that immediately comes into your mind, so I'm very excited to experience it.”
Hamblin will not have to wait long for that experience, as Oregon State will make its way to Venice tomorrow afternoon, before ending the day in Treviso. The Beavers will next hit the floor on Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. PT. You can find live updates for all of the games on this tour on Twitter, @OregonStateWBB.
