
Beavers Begin Road Trip With Thursday Tilt At Rice

THE GAME: Oregon State (2-0) hits the road for a two-game swing, beginning with a stop in Houston to play Rice (0-2) at 6 p.m. PT (8 p.m. CT) on Thursday at Tudor Fieldhouse.
TELEVISION: The game will be televised on American Sports Network with Ron Thulin and Ben Braun calling the action.

THE SERIES: Oregon State and Rice meet for the fourth time in history with the Beavers leading the series, 2-1. This will mark the first time the teams are playing each other outside the state of Oregon.
The Beavers won last year in Wayne Tinkle's first game at Oregon State, 67-54, on Nov. 14 at Gill Coliseum. Malcolm Duvivier and Jarmal Reid scored 17 points apiece, and Langston Morris-Walker posted his first career double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Seth Gearhart led Rice with 14 points.
The Owls won the first meeting between the two teams, 55-54, on Dec. 19, 1956 at Gill Coliseum. The great Temple Tucker led Rice with 17 points, while All-American Dave Gambee had 17 points and 12 rebounds for the Beavers.
Oregon State got revenge, albeit 21 years later, when it won 75-58 on Dec. 27, 1977 in the opening game of the Far West Classic in Portland. Rickey Lee (15 points, 10 rebounds) and Bill McShane (14 points, 12 rebounds) both posted double-doubles for the Beavers in the victory.
QUICKLY: Oregon State looks to go 3-0 for the second straight season; the Beavers started 3-0 one time between 2000 and 2013 (2011) ... Gary Payton II was selected to the John R. Wooden Award Preseason Top 50 ... Payton II leads the team in rebounds (17), assists (11), steals (7) and blocked shots (3) ... Freshmen Drew Eubanks, Stephen Thompson Jr. and Tres Tinkle have scored in double figures in each of the first two games ... Five players are averaging double figures led by Eubanks at 16.0 per game ... Eubanks has only missed two shots this season and shooting 86.7 percent (13-for-15) from the field … Thompson Jr. is shooting a team-best 54.5 percent (6-for-11) from the 3-point line ... Oregon State is averaging 83.5 points per game after a 60.9 average last season ... The Beavers scored 93 points in the win over Iona, their most in Wayne Tinkle's two seasons ... Oregon State outrebounded Iona (45-31), the first time it has more boards than an opponent in the past 15 games dating back to last season ... Daniel Gomis (hand) and Jarmal Reid (foot) didn't make the road trip with injuries.
