Orange & Black Exhibition Set For Thursday
November 17, 2015 | Women's Gymnastics
CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State gymnastics team continues to ready itself for the 2016 gymnastics season this Thursday at 7 p.m. when the Beavers host the annual Orange and Black Exhibition at Gill Coliseum. Admission is free and the team will sign autographs following the event.
“The Orange and Black Exhibition is always a great opportunity for our freshmen to have a competition in Gill Coliseum before the season,” head coach Tanya Chaplin said. “It really helps us to get an idea of where we need to grow between now and January 10 when the season begins.”
The format for the exhibition will have the team split into two squads with gymnasts competing head-to-head. After each pairing, guest judges will determine the winner and scores will be awarded accordingly. There will be 3-4 pairings per event.
“I'm very excited for my last Orange and Black Exhibition,” senior Erika Aufiero said. “To be in Gill (Coliseum) in front of Beaver Nation is a feeling that can't be imitated. It's important for the team to get back into competition mode, get the jitters out, and to have fun out there. We work so hard day in and day out behind closed doors, so here's our chance to celebrate that with each other and with Beaver Nation.”
The panel of guest judges at each event will include an OSU gymnastics alum, a member of the media that regularly covers Oregon State Athletics, and other VIPs from the university. The event will be emceed by OSU public address announcer Brian Brooks and will include interaction with the judges.
Gymnastics season tickets are also now on sale and the OSU Ticket Office will have staff available for a Select-A-Seat opportunity Thursday evening where fans interested in buying season tickets can choose their new vantage point.
The Beavers officially open their season Sunday, Jan. 10 when OSU hosts Auburn in the first of five home meets in 2016.
All-Americans Aufiero and Madeline Gardiner are set to lead the Beavers in 2016. In addition to Aufiero and Gardiner, the team returns 10 letterwinners including All-Pac-12 performer Kaytianna McMillan along with seniors Risa Perez and Jamie Radermacher. In addition, four freshmen – Mariana Colussi-Pelaez, Mary Jacobsen, McKenna Singley and Elizabeth Yu – join the fray for the Beavers.
Fans can also purchase season tickets online at BeaverTickets.com, over the phone at 1-800-GO-BEAVS or in person at the OSU Ticket Office.
