
Beavers In Ninth Place Through 36 Holes

SAMMAMISH, Wash. – The Oregon State women's golf team battled through 36 holes of play on Tuesday at the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational and sits in ninth place in the 13-team field with 18 holes to play.
The Beavers shot an 11-over 299 in the morning round and an 18-over 306 in the afternoon at the par-72, 6,039-yard Sahalee Country Club to finish the day with a 29-over 605.
California jumped out to a 10-stroke lead after posting a 5-over 581. San Diego State is second with a 15-over 591 and host Washington is third with an 18-over 594.
The final round of the two-day, 54-hole tournament will start at 8 a.m. on Wednesday and live scoring is available on golfstat.com.
“This morning we had four players play pretty well on a tough golf course in a very competitive field,” Oregon State head coach Sammie Chergo said. “Our afternoon round we struggled more. We are looking forward to the challenge tomorrow. We need more out of Hannah in our five spot and our other four to build on the momentum they created today.”
Senior Chelsea Saelee and freshman Olivia Benzin are both tied for 21st place with a 6-over 150, as Saelee went 73-77 and Benzin posted scores of 74-76.
Sophomore Haley Nist is a stroke back with a 7-over 76-75--151 to put her in a tie for 27th place, senior Ashlee Pickerell is tied for 40th with a 10-over 76-78--154 and sophomore Hannah Swanson shot scores of 84 and 80.
Only two golfers were in red numbers after the 36-hole day -- Bianca Pagdanganan of Gonzaga (2-under 142) and Lucia Gutierrez of California (1-under 143).
