CORVALLIS – Former Oregon State men's soccer players Robbie Findley and Danny Mwanga have both been named to the Pac-12 All-Century men's soccer team, which was released today by the Pac-12 Networks. Findley was named to the starting 11, while Mwanga earned a spot on the team's “bench”.
A panel that was made up of current coaches, former players and members of the media conducted voting. Notable voting participants include Pac-12 Networks soccer analysts Christopher Sullivan and Kelly Gray; Olympian and USMT member Chris Henderson; and Ridge Mahoney, Senior Editor of 'Soccer America.'
Findley was a standout for the Beavers from 2003-06, helping lead the team to an NCAA Tournament appearance in his freshman season. Overall, Findley finished his Oregon State career with 71 points on 28 goals and 15 assists. He's tied for the Beavers' all-time lead with 10 game-winning goals, and was a three-time NSCAA All-Region selection and Pac-12 First Team selection. One of Findley's most notable performances came against Washington on Nov. 14, 2004, when he recorded a hat-trick.
Findley was selected in the second round of the 2007 Major League Soccer SuperDraft, and has played professionally for the LA Galaxy, Real Salt Lake and Toronto FC of MLS, and for English club Nottingham Forest. He won an MLS Cup as a member of Real Salt Lake in 2009, scoring in the 64th minute of the Cup Final. Findley has also earned 11 caps with the US National Team, including three at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
Mwanga made his mark on the Oregon State program in his two seasons with the Beavers, scoring 18 goals from 2008-09. His 2009 season proved to be his breakout campaign, as the forward tallied 30 points on 14 goals and two assists, the fourth-highest total in school history. For his efforts, Mwanga was named Pac-12 Player of the Year, and earned All-America honors.
After leaving OSU early to join the professional ranks, Mwanga was selected with the No. 1 overall pick in the MLS Draft by the Philadelphia Union. Over the course of his six year career, Mwanga has played for the Union, the Portland Timbers, the Colorado Rapids and, currently, Orlando City SC. He has seen time in 102 matches overall, scoring 15 goals.
