LOS ANGELES – Trever Morrison led top-ranked Oregon State with a two-hit effort but the Beavers dropped a 4-2 decision to USC Friday night at Dedeaux Field.

Morrison tripled in the third and singled in the fifth to lead the Oregon State (41-11 overall, 22-6 Pac-12 Conference) offense, which tallied eight hits on the day. USC (28-23, 15-13), however, managed to score four runs off eight hits for the come-from-behind victory.

The Beavers jumped on the board first, scoring a run on a wild pitch in the first inning. Oregon State added to the lead with a sacrifice fly off the bat of Jeff Hendrix in the third. USC, however, tied the score on a two-out triple by Frankie Rios in the fourth.

USC took the lead in the seventh when Timmy Robinson hit a sac fly to right. Jeremy Martinez made it 4-2 in favor the Trojans with a single to right.

Neither starting pitcher picked up a decision. Jace Fry started for the Beavers and tossed 106 pitches in six innings of work. He allowed four hits and two unearned runs while walking three and striking out seven.

Fry's counterpart, Brent Wheatley, scattered five hits and two runs over six innings.

The loss went to Oregon State reliever Brandon Jackson (0-1), who allowed two hits and two runs – his first earned runs of the season – in 1/3 of an inning. The win, meanwhile, went to USC;s Marc Huberman, who improved to 1-1. He allowed one hit in 1 1/3 innings.

The Beavers and Trojans continue the series Saturday at 4:05 p.m. PT. The game can be seen live on the Pac-12 Networks.
