CORVALLIS, Ore. - Andrew Moore threw 7 2/3 innings in a scoreless start as he and the seventh-ranked Oregon State baseball team shut out USC, 3-0, in front a season-best 3,103 fans at Goss Stadium Saturday afternoon.
Tyler Smith and Ryan Barnes drove in runs for the Beavers, who now look for a sweep of the Trojans Sunday in a 12:05 p.m. PT start at Goss Stadium.
Moore held the Trojans scoreless through 7 2/3 innings, scattering four singles while issuing two walks and hitting one batter. He induced inning-ending double plays in the fifth and seventh innings.
The Oregon State (33-8 overall, 13-4 Pac-12 Conference) defense was stellar behind Moore as Max Gordon ended USC's third with a diving catch of a sinking liner and Conforto threw out a runner attempting to go to third on a single in the eighth. Jake Rodriguez threw out a runner trying to advance to third on a ball in the dirt later in the eighth, and Smith turned a double play in the seventh on a grounder that skipped off the mound.

Tony Bryant picked up his first save of the season with 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief, which helped the Beavers to their eighth shutout of the season. That is the most in the Pac-12 this season and tied for second nationally.
USC's (16-25, 8-12) starter, Wyatt Strahan, worked 7 2/3 innings in the Trojans' loss. He allowed five hits and three runs while walking three and striking out three. The righty took the loss to drop to 2-3 on the year.
Barnes opened the game's scoring when he reached on an infield single in the second. The ball deflected off USC second baseman James Roberts, That enabled Dylan Davis to score from second.
Conforto extended the Beavers' lead to 2-0 with a solo home run in the fourth. It cleared the left field fence near the foul pole and snapped a 20-game streak without a home run for the sophomore.
Smith gave the Beavers an insurance run in the eighth. His second single of the game scored Rodriguez from third.
