FRESNO, Calif. - The Oregon State women's golf team finished its regular season with a sixth-place finish at the 15-team Fresno State Lexus Classic on Tuesday. Next up: the Pac-12 Championships next week in Valencia, Calif.
The Beavers finished the two-day, 54-hole tournament with a 47-over 306-299-306--911 at the par-72, 6,212-yard Copper River Country Club. Long Beach State won the team title with a 28-over 892, while Tulsa, San Jose State, UC Irvine and Idaho rounded out the top five, respectively.
Sophomore Anica Yoo fired a 1-over 73 in Tuesday's final round to move 14 spots up the leaderboard and lead the Beavers with a tie for 22nd place with an 11-over 80-74-73--227. Junior Lauren Sewell was a stroke back after shooting three 76's for a 12-over 228 that was good enough for a tie for 25th place.
"Today was an up-and-down round for both Anica and Lauren," Oregon State head coach Risë Alexander said. "They both started with a double bogey but were able to come back strong. Anica had four birdies in a row on holes five through eight, and Lauren played the back nine with a birdie on 12 and an eagle on 13 to finish with her score of 1-under on the back nine. They will need to draw from these performances going into our conference championship."

Junior Seshia Telles and freshman Chelsea Saelee each finished in a tie for 35th place with a 14-over 230, as Telles went 74-77-79 in the three rounds and Saelee shot 78-72-80. Freshman Ashlee Pickerell was consistent over the three rounds with scores of 78-77-78 for a 17-over 233 and a tie for 45th place.
"Seshia had an off day but had some great moments as well with birdies on eight and nine and some excellent par saves," Alexander said. "Ashlee and Chelsea, the two freshmen, have gotten a ton of great experience this year in their transition from junior golf into competitive collegiate golf."
Simone Hoey of Long Beach State ran away with medalist honors with a 5-under 72-69-70--211 to finish four strokes better than UC Irvine's Luciane Lee who shot a 1-under 70-71-74--215.
The Beavers return to action next week at the Pac-12 Championships, which will be played Monday through Wednesday at the Valencia Country Club in Valencia, Calif., looking for a strong finish to make a second straight trip to the NCAA Regionals.
"All in all, this is a good season so far and we have so much talent to build on going into next year," Alexander said. "With our recruiting class for next fall being strong, we truly have an exciting future to look forward to. Conference preparation begins with some intense discussions on course strategy and mental focus. Whatever the outcome next week, I am very proud of the progress I am seeing in these players."
