CORVALLIS, Ore. - Brandon Jackson held Texas State scoreless in 3 1/3 innings of relief to send the fourth-ranked Oregon State baseball team to a 6-3 win over the Bobcats in front of 2,927 fans at Goss Stadium Sunday.
Rodriguez singled in the third, fourth and eighth innings, driving in solo runs in the latter two at bats. He pushed his RBI total to nine on the year and upped his average to .333.
Jackson, meanwhile, finished the game for the Beavers and picked up his first save. The right-hander came on in relief of Oregon State starter Andrew Moore in the sixth and scattered just one hit while striking out five.
Moore improved to 4-0 after throwing 91 pitches in 5 2/3 innings. He struck out six, walked two and allowed five hits and three runs - two earned.
Texas State took the lead in the first but the Beavers sent eight to the plate in a three-run fourth inning that gave Oregon State the lead for good. Tyler Smith led off the inning with a triple and was driven in when Michael Conforto recorded his 17th RBI of the season with a single. Kavin Keyes and Rodriguez finished off the inning with run-scoring singles.
The Beavers managed 10 hits on the day, with only Smith's triple going for extra bases.
Oregon State added a run when Texas State second baseman J.D. Stinnett made two errors on a Danny Hayes grounder, which proved to be pivotal as the Bobcats scored two in the sixth off Moore. But OSU padded its lead when Hayes singled in the seventh and Rodriguez drove in a run in the eighth.
Taylor Black started for Texas State (5-9) and took the loss to drop to 1-2 this season. The Beavers finished with eight hits and five runs against the right-hander.
The win pushed Oregon State's record to 14-0. The Beavers' 14-game win streak is the team's longest since the 1986 club won 15 straight.
The teams finish the series Sunday at 1:05 p.m. PT.
