SAN DIEGO - Kavin Keyes hit his first home run of the season but the 2nd-ranked Oregon State baseball team committed five errors in a series-opening 7-4 loss to San Diego Thursday night at Fowler Park.

Keyes led off the fourth inning with a solo home run to right. It was the second home run of Keyes' career and put the Beavers up 4-3.

The Toreros, however, scored the game's final four runs for the win. Five of the seven runs scored by San Diego on the night were unearned as the five errors committed by the Beavers (21-3 overall) were a season-high.

The first of two triples for Louie Lechich, coming in the sixth, proved to be the game winner, breaking the 4-4 deadlock.

Max MacNabb worked 1 1/3 innings of relief for San Diego to pick up the win and improve to 2-2 this season. Taylor Starr, meanwhile, took the loss after allowing three hits and an unearned run. He is 0-1 on the year.

San Diego collected seven hits on the night, led by Kris Bryant's three. The Beavers tallied nine, with Keyes' two pacing the club.

Neither started figured in the game's decision after both got knocked out early. Dan Child worked 3 1/3 innings for the Beavers and allowed one hit but walked four. He allowed three runs.

Child walked in a run and hit a batter with the bases loaded in the second. He gave up his first home run of the season in the third, a solo shot to San Diego third baseman Kris Bryant.

San Diego (17-9) starter, Michael Wagner, gave up eight hits and four runs in 5 1/3 innings. He walked two and struck out seven. Wagner allowed RBI singles by Andy Peterson and Michael Conforto as the Beavers tied the game in the third. OSU temporarily went up 3-2 on a sacrifice fly by Dylan Davis.

The teams continue the series Friday night at 6 p.m. PT.
