No. 3 Beavers Downed By USF, Win Streak Snapped At 15

CORVALLIS, Ore. - Dylan Davis hit his first home run of the season but that was all the offense the third-ranked Oregon State baseball team could muster in a 5-1 loss to San Francisco Tuesday night at Goss Stadium.
Davis hit the second pitch he saw in the sixth inning for a solo shot but it was just one of four hits for the Beavers on the night against three San Francisco pitchers.
The loss snaps the Beavers' win streak at 15, which was the team's longest since the 1986 club won 16 straight. Oregon State dropped to 15-1 while USF improved to 7-8.
The Dons took a 2-0 lead in the first when Zachary Turner singled and Bradley Zimmer reached on a fielder's choice, then moved it to a 3-0 advantage in the third when Brendan Hendriks grounded out to second.
Davis' home run in the sixth pulled the Beavers to within one but Hendriks singled with two out in the seventh to push the Dons' lead to 5-1.
Dan Child started for the Beavers and suffered the loss to fall to 3-1 on the year. The righty allowed five hits and three runs in two innings of work.
Christian Cecilio started for San Francisco and worked four innings, allowing just one run. The win went to USF reliever Haden Hinkle, who allowed one hit - Davis' homer - in three innings. He improved to 4-0 on the year.
Turner led USF with three hits while Zimmer and Bob Cruikshank had two apiece.
Oregon State finishes the midweek series Wednesday night against the Dons with another 5:35 p.m. PT start. Tickets for the game are half off: $10 for infield reserved seats and $5 for outfield general admission.
