FULLERTON, Calif. - Arica Nassar had 12 kills and Haley Clarke finished with six blocks to send the Oregon State volleyball team to a sweep of Cal State Fullerton Saturday night in the finale of the Fullerton Classic.
Set scores were 25-16, 25-21, 25-18. It was Oregon State's first sweep of the weekend and the team's fourth of the season.
The win sent Oregon State to its eighth straight victory, the longest for the Beavers since the 1996 team started with 11 consecutive victories. The Beavers went 3-0 at the tournament hosted by the Titans, defeating Santa Clara in four sets Friday before downing San Diego State in four earlier on Saturday.
"We sided out really well on this match," Oregon State head coach Taras Liskevych said. "We sided out at 75 percent for the entire match, which is really good. We continued to hit real well. (Katelyn) Driscoll played very well off the bench."
Nassar hit .786 in the match, connecting on 12 of her 14 attempts with just one attack error. The sophomore added two digs and three blocks in the win.
Clarke finished with six blocks, including one solo. The redshirt freshman finished with 21 over the Beavers' three matches - she grabbed 10 against Santa Clara to open the weekend and five earlier Saturday against San Diego State.
Clarke also had six kills.
Driscoll, meanwhile, had a career-best four blocks while Becky Defoe finished with 25 digs, her eighth match of the season with 20 or more.
The Beavers hit .298 and held the Titans (6-7) to a .076 clip. Kayla Neto led Fullerton with 12 kills while Bre Moreland pitched in with 11.
Nassar was named the most valuable player of the tournament while Megan McBride and Alyssa O'Neil were named to the all-tournament team.
Oregon State controlled the match, with only three lead changes occurring throughout, all coming in the second set.
Nassar had six of her 12 kills in the first set and the Beavers hit .387 compared to a .028 clip for the Titans.
Camille Saxton, who had nine kills, led the Beavers in set two with four. OSU hit .294 in the set while Fullerton managed a .158 percentage.
Set three was much of the same: OSU lowered its hitting percentage to .207 but Cal State Fullerton was limited to .044. Nassar again had four kills and Driscoll tallied two blocks.
Oregon State opens Pac-12 Conference play Wednesday when visiting Oregon in the Civil War Series presented by the Northwest Ford Dealers, PacificSource Health Plans and Wells Fargo. The match at Matt Knight Arena in Eugene starts at 7 p.m. PT and will mark the Beavers' first appearance on the Pac-12 Networks.
