BATON ROUGE, La. - Ryan Dunn drove in the Oregon State's lone run as the Beavers dropped an NCAA Regional game to No. 1 seed LSU, 7-1, Saturday night in front of 10,367 at Alex Box Stadium.
The Beavers must now play Louisiana-Monroe Sunday at 1:37 p.m. CT (11:37 a.m. PT) to advance to the first of two possible regional championship games Sunday night against LSU.
Oregon State managed seven hits off LSU starter Kevin Gausman, but could score just one run in eight innings off the right-hander. He picked up the win after walking three and striking out three to improve to 11-1 this season.
Gausman threw 129 pitches in the win
Dan Child got the start for the Beavers (39-19 overall) and threw 102 pitches in 5 1/3 innings in his 17th appearance of the season. The sophomore allowed seven hits and five runs with two walks and a strikeout before being relieved by Dylan Davis with one out and runners on second and third in the sixth.
Child took the loss to drop to 6-4 this season.
LSU (45-16) got on the board first, in the second inning, when Tyler Hanover drove in a run on a groundout and Austin Nola singled to center for the 2-0 lead.
Dunn pulled the Beavers to within one in the third when he singled to the gap in right center, enabling Michael Conforto to come in from second.
The Tigers, however, scored two more in the third for the 4-1 lead. A groundout to second by Ty Ross scored Mason Katz and Grant Dozar drove in the inning's second run on a bloop single to left center that was just out of the reach of OSU shortstop Tyler Smith.
LSU added to the lead in the sixth off Child and Davis when Arby Fields scored from third on a wild pitch.
Ross and Dozar and Austin Nola all had two hits to lead LSU.
Davis made his ninth appearance of the season and struck out four in a scoreless two innings of relief.
