TEMPE, Ariz. - Sophomore Seshia Telles shot a 3-over 74 to lead the Oregon State women's golf team in the opening round of the 38th Annual PING/ASU Invitational in Tempe, Ariz., on Friday.
The Beavers posted a 22-over 306 at the par-71, 6,121-yard ASU Karsten Golf Course in Friday's first round of the three-day, 54-hole tournament that includes nine teams ranked in the top-25 by golfstat.com.
"Our performance today was definitely uneventful," Oregon State head coach Risë Alexander said. "Seshia played with excellent focus and determination. If the team will follow her lead we should play substantially better tomorrow. The good news is that we can prepare and play for two more rounds."
Telles birdied the par-3 seventh hole and is tied for 43rd on the individual leader board with two rounds to play, while senior Whitney French finished play with a 5-over 76, freshman Anica Yoo shot a 6-over 77, sophomore Lauren Sewell had an 8-over 79 and junior Rachael Fischer finished with a 10-over 81.

Host Arizona State was the only team to finish under-par with a 4-under 280 and has a four-stroke lead over No. 1 UCLA and Stanford, which both finished with an even-par 284. Bethany Calvo of UNLV and Justine Lee of Arizona State share the clubhouse lead with a 4-under 67.
The second round begins at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday off the first and 10th holes and live scoring is available at golfstat.com.
